How to Track Qualified Leads From Google Ads

Connect forms and calls to CRM outcomes so Google Ads can distinguish raw enquiries from qualified opportunities and customers.

Google Ads cannot optimize for lead quality if quality exists only in a salesperson’s head.

You need a connection:

ad click → enquiry → CRM record → qualified outcome → imported conversion

Step 1: Define “qualified”

Write a rule another person can apply.

For home services:

  • Correct service
  • Inside service area
  • Decision-maker or authorized contact
  • Real project
  • Timeline and budget fit
  • For B2B:

  • Target industry
  • Minimum company size
  • Relevant role
  • Active business need
  • Viable timeline
  • Avoid vague labels such as “looks good.”

    Step 2: Create CRM stages

    Use a short ladder:

    StageMeaning
    NewEnquiry received
    ValidReal, relevant person
    QualifiedMeets sales criteria
    OpportunityQuote, demo, or proposal
    WonBecame a customer
    LostClosed without sale

Require a lost reason: wrong service, outside area, price, no response, competitor, duplicate, or spam.

    Step 3: Capture attribution

Store the supported identifiers and context your setup needs:

  • GCLID
  • GBRAID or WBRAID where applicable
  • Landing page
  • Campaign parameters
  • Lead timestamp
  • Consent status
  • Hashed user-provided data for enhanced conversions where permitted
  • Do not rely on a salesperson copying the source manually.

    Step 4: Track forms correctly

A form conversion should fire only after confirmed success—not on button click.

    Test:

  • Successful submission
  • Validation error
  • Duplicate submission
  • Thank-you state
  • CRM record creation
  • Attribution fields
  • Mobile behavior
  • Step 5: Track calls as outcomes

    Record:

  • Paid source and campaign
  • Answered or missed
  • New or existing customer
  • Service requested
  • Qualified status
  • Booked status
  • Estimated value
  • Call duration is a useful diagnostic, not a complete quality definition.

Step 6: Create Google Ads conversion actions

    Typical actions:

  • Raw form or call
  • Qualified lead
  • Opportunity
  • Customer
  • Choose primary and secondary roles intentionally. Do not make every micro-action equally biddable.

    Step 7: Import later-stage outcomes

Google recommends enhanced conversions for leads as an upgraded offline-conversion approach using first-party user-provided data alongside imported CRM outcomes.

Current implementation options can include Data Manager, API, and supported integrations.

Follow the latest official Google Ads bidding and enhanced-conversion guidance.

    Step 8: Assign values

Use actual customer value when available.

    For earlier stages:

Expected value = close probability × expected gross profit

If 25% of qualified leads become customers worth $2,000 in gross profit:

    25% × $2,000 = $500 expected qualified-lead value

    Use conservative, reviewed probabilities.

    Step 9: Validate before bidding

    Run imports in observation first.

    Compare:

  • CRM stage counts
  • Imported conversions
  • Match rate
  • Duplicate rate
  • Timestamp accuracy
  • Value totals
  • Conversion delay
  • Investigate gaps before switching optimization goals.

Step 10: Build the weekly report

    Campaign A

    Also monitor:

  • Missed calls
  • Time to first contact
  • Leads without status
  • Import errors
  • Lost reasons
  • Quality-control checklist

  • [ ] Qualification rule is written
  • [ ] CRM stages are used consistently
  • [ ] Attribution is stored automatically
  • [ ] Forms fire on success only
  • [ ] Calls connect to outcomes
  • [ ] Offline actions are deduplicated
  • [ ] Values are economically defensible
  • [ ] Match rate is monitored
  • [ ] Conversion delay is respected
  • [ ] Qualified CPA and CAC guide decisions
  • Tracking qualified leads is not only a technical project. It is an agreement between marketing, sales, operations, and finance about what success means.
