Klaviyo flows are automated email sequences that fire based on customer behavior. Built once, they earn forever.

Most Shopify stores I audit run 1–2 flows. Stores hitting 30%+ revenue from email run 8–9. Here's the full list.

TL;DR

Build these in order:

1. Welcome series

2. Abandoned Cart

3. Abandoned Checkout

4. Browse Abandonment

5. Post-Purchase

6. Winback

7. Sunset

8. Birthday/Anniversary

9. VIP / Loyalty

Flow 1: Welcome series (3–4 emails)

Trigger: signup via popup or footer form.

  • Email 1 (immediate): deliver welcome offer. "Your code: WELCOME10."
  • Email 2 (Day 2): brand story. Why you started.
  • Email 3 (Day 4): bestsellers + reviews.
  • Email 4 (Day 7): last-chance reminder for code.
  • Conversion: 8–15% of subscribers buy in 14 days.

    Flow 2: Abandoned Cart

Trigger: added to cart, no checkout in 1 hour.

  • Email 1 (1 hr): "left something behind?" — soft.
  • Email 2 (24 hr): social proof + urgency.
  • Email 3 (48 hr): 10% off, time-limited.
  • Recovery: 5–10% of carts.

    Flow 3: Abandoned Checkout

Trigger: reached checkout, no purchase in 1 hour.

Different audience from Cart. Higher intent.

  • Email 1 (1 hr): "We saved your cart" + 1-click resume link.
  • Email 2 (24 hr): gentle nudge + reviews.
  • Often no discount needed.

    Flow 4: Browse Abandonment

Trigger: viewed product 2+ times in 24 hours, no add-to-cart.

  • Email 1 (4 hr): product highlight + "still thinking?"
  • Email 2 (Day 2): similar products.
  • Underused, easy win.

    Flow 5: Post-Purchase

    Trigger: purchase placed.

  • Email 1 (immediate): order confirmation + thank you.
  • Email 2 (delivery + 3 days): review request.
  • Email 3 (delivery + 7 days): usage tips, related products.
  • Email 4 (delivery + 21 days): replenishment OR cross-sell.
  • Repeat purchase: 8–15% within 30 days.

    Flow 6: Winback

Trigger: hasn't purchased in 60–90 days.

  • Email 1: "We miss you" — emotional.
  • Email 2 (Day 4): 15% off code.
  • Email 3 (Day 7): last chance.
  • Reactivation: 5–10% of dormants.

    Flow 7: Sunset

    Trigger: 180 days no engagement.

  • Email 1: "Are we still right for you?"
  • Email 2 (Day 14): "We're letting you go" — suppress if no engagement.
  • Improves overall list deliverability.

    Flow 8: Birthday

Trigger: birthday field collected at signup.

  • 1 email on birthday (or 7 days before): gift code valid 14 days.
  • Conversion: 3–6%, but goodwill is huge.

    Flow 9: VIP / Loyalty

Trigger: customer hits a spend threshold (e.g., ₱20K lifetime, 5+ orders).

  • Email 1: VIP welcome + early-access invite.
  • Email 2 (quarterly): exclusive product / early sale access.
  • Builds retention and LTV.

    Setup essentials

    Connect Klaviyo to Shopify

Native integration. Auto-syncs orders, customers, products.

    Sync historical orders

    So segments work day one.

    Smart Sending

Prevent the same customer from being spammed. Klaviyo has it built in; enable.

    Suppression

Hard bounces and unengaged 90+ days suppressed automatically.

    Double opt-in

    Protects deliverability.

    Segmentation

    Don't blast "all subscribers." Segment:

  • Engaged 30 days: opened/clicked recently.
  • VIPs by spend: top 10% lifetime.
  • By category: skincare buyers vs supplement buyers.
  • By location: Metro Manila vs Provincial.
  • Send most campaigns to Engaged 90 days. Protects sender reputation.

    SMS layering

Once past ₱500K/month revenue, layer SMS on top of:

  • Abandoned Cart (4 hr after Email 1).
  • Abandoned Checkout (4 hr after Email 1).
  • Welcome (Day 1).
  • SMS opens at 95%+. ROAS 8–20x.

    Email subject line rules

Stop writing "🔥 50% OFF FLASH SALE 🔥". Tanks deliverability.

Lowercase, conversational, question marks, curiosity gaps work.

    Measuring

  • Revenue per recipient: how much each subscriber generates.
  • Email % of total revenue: aim 25–35%.
  • List growth rate: outpace churn 2–3x.
  • Stop obsessing over open rate (Apple MPP makes it noise).

    When to invest

Email pays for itself by month 2. Klaviyo costs:

  • Free up to 250 contacts.
  • ₱2,500/mo at 1,500 contacts.
  • ₱8,000/mo at 5,000 contacts.
  • Returns 5–15x cost at every tier.
