Shopify CRO Guide: 40 Tactics Ranked by Impact (2026)

A 1% conversion rate to 2% doubles your revenue at the same ad spend. Here are 40 CRO moves I deploy on Shopify stores — ranked by what actually moves the needle.

Conversion rate optimization is the highest-leverage activity in e-commerce. A 1% to 2% conversion rate jump effectively doubles your ad ROAS without any new spend.

But most "CRO advice" online is generic and untested. Here are 40 specific moves I deploy on Shopify stores — ranked roughly by impact.

Tier 1: Do these first (highest impact)

1. Speed up mobile

Mobile PageSpeed under 50 = your conversion ceiling is low. Get to 70+. See Shopify Speed Optimization Guide.

2. Add reviews above the fold on product pages

Star rating + review count near the product name. Lifts conversion 8–15%.

3. Free shipping threshold (and progress bar)

"Add ₱350 more for free shipping" lifts AOV AND conversion (because it removes the shipping objection at decision moment).

4. Sticky add-to-cart on mobile

CTA always visible. Lifts mobile conversion 5–10%.

5. Real product photography

If your photos look like AliExpress, your conversion will be AliExpress-tier. Invest in real product shots.

6. Short, scannable product descriptions

3–5 bullet points + 200-word story. Not a wall of text.

7. Trust signals at checkout

Payment icons, secure badge, free returns. Lifts checkout completion 3–7%.

8. Reduce checkout fields

Hide Company, Apartment if not needed. Each removed field lifts conversion 0.5–2%.

9. Enable Shop Pay

Shop Pay accelerated checkout converts 1.7x better than guest checkout.

10. COD as a payment option (PH)

15–30% of PH first-time buyers want COD. Don't lose them.

Tier 2: Significant lifts

11. Multiple high-quality product images (5+)

Hero, 3/4, top-down, detail, lifestyle. Plus ideally a video.

12. Add an FAQ section to product pages

8–12 honest questions. Reduces support tickets AND lifts conversion.

13. Customer photo reviews (UGC)

Loox or Stamped. Photo reviews lift conversion 10–20%.

14. Cart drawer instead of cart page

Cart drawer keeps the customer on the product page. Less friction.

15. Express checkout buttons on product page

Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay above the regular add-to-cart.

16. Estimated delivery date

"Order in the next 2 hours, get it Wednesday." Better than "3–5 business days."

17. Live inventory low-stock indicator

"Only 3 left." Real, not fake.

Reduces choice paralysis on collection pages.

19. Headline that includes a benefit

Bad: "Vanilla Hair Oil." Good: "Vanilla Hair Oil — Daily Serum for Dry Ends."

20. Social proof near price

"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Reviewed by 234 customers" right next to the price.

Tier 3: Worth doing if Tier 1 and 2 are done

21. Exit-intent popup with offer

3–8% recovery on would-be abandoners.

22. Welcome popup (10% off for email)

Captures leads, lifts first-purchase conversion.

23. Klaviyo abandoned cart sequence

Recovers 15–25% of abandoned carts.

24. Klaviyo welcome flow

8–15% of subscribers become first-time buyers.

25. Bundles on product pages

"Buy this + 2 more, save 20%." Lifts AOV without margin damage.

26. Post-purchase upsell (ReConvert)

+12–25% AOV.

27. Sticky promo bar at top

"Free shipping over ₱1,500" or "11.11 sale ends Sunday."

28. Press logos on homepage

"As seen in [Esquire, Mega]." Builds trust.

29. Founder story on About page

Real connection > generic copy.

30. Pop-up subscription deal on subscription products

"Subscribe and save 10%" with clear pricing comparison.

Tier 4: Marginal lifts (do after everything else)

31. Sticky promo banner with countdown

For sales periods only.

32. Better collection page editorial copy

200–400 words above or below grid. SEO + conversion.

33. Cross-sell modal in cart

"Add a complementary product."

34. Order summary above the fold (mobile checkout)

Some non-Plus checkouts hide it. Surface it.

35. Express delivery option

"Same-day Metro Manila for ₱180."

36. Wishlist functionality

For high-AOV stores. Lower-priority for low-AOV.

37. Product comparison

Useful for tech/electronics. Skip for most other categories.

38. Recently viewed products

Helps customers come back to items.

39. "Complete the look" recommendations

For fashion. Lifts AOV 5–12%.

40. Loyalty program

Smile.io or Yotpo. Lifts retention more than conversion.

What doesn't work (skip these)

  • "Sales pop" notifications ("Maria from Manila just bought!"). Customers see through them. Hurts trust.
  • Spin-the-wheel popups. Gimmicky. Hurt brand.
  • Auto-playing video with sound on homepage.
  • Excessive countdown timers.
  • Multiple competing CTAs on every page.
  • How to actually run CRO

    Test sequentially, not in parallel

    Change ONE thing at a time. Otherwise you don't know what worked.

    Wait for statistical significance

    Most stores don't have enough traffic to A/B test rigorously. If you're under 10K sessions/month, sequential testing (try X for 30 days, then Y for 30 days) is more practical than concurrent A/B.

    Measure both halves of the funnel

  • Top of funnel: PDP view → Add to Cart.
  • Bottom of funnel: Add to Cart → Purchase.
  • A change might lift one and hurt the other.

    Don't ignore qualitative

    Run Hotjar or Microsoft Clarity for 1 week per quarter. Watch 20 session recordings. You'll spot 5 issues that no analytics dashboard would surface.

    Realistic conversion targets

    For a typical PH Shopify store:

  • Cold ad traffic: 1–2.5% conversion.
  • Warm traffic (retargeting): 3–8%.
  • Direct/branded: 5–15%.
  • Email (engaged): 3–10% per send.
  • Overall blended: 1.5–3.5%.
  • If you're below 1.5% blended, work through Tier 1 and 2 above.

    What to do this week

    If your conversion rate is below 2% blended:

  • Day 1: speed audit, image compression.
  • Day 2: install reviews app, surface ratings on PDPs.
  • Day 3: free shipping bar, sticky add-to-cart, cart drawer.
  • Day 4: Klaviyo welcome + abandoned cart flows.
  • Day 5: rewrite top 5 product page descriptions.
  • Day 6: enable Shop Pay + COD + express checkout.
  • Day 7: launch + measure.
  • Most stores see +20–50% lift over 60 days.
